Lake Forest is 8-1 against Woodbridge since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Spartans will look to defend their home field against the Raiders at 4:15 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Woodbridge will be up against a hot Lake Forest team: the squad just extended their winning streak to 16. The Spartans put the hurt on St. Georges Tech with a sharp 11-2 victory on Monday.
Meanwhile, Woodbridge got themselves on the board against Ursuline Academy on Saturday, but Ursuline Academy never followed suit. They blew past Ursuline Academy 10-0. Woodbridge has beaten Ursuline Academy the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest Ursuline Academy has come to flipping the script.
Makayla Lessner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over six innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kalli Chelton and Madison Hare did most of the damage at the plate: Chelton went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run, while Hare went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Hare a new career-high. Abriyah Reed was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Lake Forest pushed their record up to 16-0 with the win, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Woodbridge, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.
Lake Forest was able to grind out a solid victory over Woodbridge in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 7-3. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
