Basketball Preview: Laney Buccaneers vs. North Brunswick Scorpions
Laney is 10-0 against North Brunswick since December of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Laney Buccaneers will challenge the North Brunswick Scorpions at 6:00 p.m. North Brunswick took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Laney, who comes in off a win.
Laney is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past West Brunswick, posting a 70-27 win. The Buccaneers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Laney's win on Tuesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Piper Conklin, who went 5 for 10 en route to 17 points and seven rebounds. That's the most points Conklin has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Clayton, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 16 points.
Laney was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Brunswick only racked up three assists.
Meanwhile, North Brunswick played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 60-21 loss at the hands of Hoggard. While losing is never fun, the Scorpions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 390th, while the Vikings are ranked 19th).
This is the second loss in a row for North Brunswick and nudges their season record down to 3-10. As for Laney, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-6.
