Basketball Recap: Riviera Beach Preparatory and Achievement Academy Comes Up Short

Riviera Beach Preparatory and Achievement Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were one points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 45-44 heartbreaker at the hands of the Santaluces Chiefs.

Riviera Beach Preparatory and Achievement Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hershell Reynolds, who shot 4-for-6 from deep and dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten boards. The match was Reynolds' eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jashaun Baker, who posted seven points in addition to ten rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Riviera Beach Preparatory and Achievement Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in 17 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Santaluces' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Abiel Blanc, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Geovanni Casteel, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards.

Riviera Beach Preparatory and Achievement Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Santaluces, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Riviera Beach Preparatory and Achievement Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Synergy Magnet K12 at 6:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Santaluces also won't see the court for a while: their next game is against Seminole Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
