Softball Game Preview: Laton Mustangs vs. Alpaugh Buffalos

Laton has gone 9-1 against Alpaugh recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mustangs will take on the Buffalos at 4:15 p.m. Laton is coming into the game hot, having won their last eight games.

On Wednesday, Laton got the win against Wonderful College Prep Academy by a conclusive 27-17. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won nine matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Madison Heffley was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Camila Figueroa, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Laton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .775. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Alpaugh's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of Kings Christian by a score of 19-18. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on April 8th (17), the Buffalos still had to take the loss.

Laton pushed their record up to 10-7 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 25.1 runs over those games. As for Alpaugh, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-3.

Laton suffered a grim 17-5 defeat to Alpaugh in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
