Softball Recap: Wickliffe Takes a Loss

After flying high against Kirtland on Tuesday, Wickliffe came back down to earth. The Blue Devils fell just short of the West Geauga Wolverines by a score of 10-9 on Thursday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Blue Devils, who until this contest were averaging 3.18 runs allowed.

Maddie Kita and Mackayla Gazdak stepped up to the plate in a big way. Kita went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Gazdak went 2-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Maddie Prosuch was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Wickliffe's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for West Geauga, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-9.

Coming up, Wickliffe will host LaBrae at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something the Blue Devils surely won't give up without a fight. As for West Geauga, they will head out on the road to take on Berkshire at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
