Baseball Game Preview: Medomak Valley Panthers vs. Oceanside Mariners

The Medomak Valley Panthers will square off against the Oceanside Mariners at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Medomak Valley is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

Medomak Valley is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Yarmouth, who was ranked 23rd at the time (Medomak Valley was ranked tenth). The Panthers came out on top against the Clippers by a score of 6-2 on Monday. While the Panthers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Medomak Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Porter Gahagan, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two runs gave Gahagan a new career-high. Another was Wyatt Simmons, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Oceanside fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Belfast on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 5-4. The Mariners have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Joey Brown made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

Medomak Valley's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Oceanside, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Medomak Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Oceanside struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
