Volleyball Game Preview: Garner Trojans vs. Clayton Comets

The Garner Trojans will venture away from home to take on the Clayton Comets at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

On Thursday, Garner got the win against South Garner by a conclusive 3-0.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Garner was: they took every set by at least 14 points. The final score came out to 25-7, 25-5, 25-11.

Garner's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Savannah Wilkins led the charge by getting ten digs and one assist. Anna Claire Jinnette also deserves some recognition as she had her first dig of the season.

Meanwhile, Clayton waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Titans with a sharp 3-0 win.

One reason for the win was Clayton's just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 25-11, 25-6.

Garner better focus on containing Layla Seremet and Emily Hornbeck as the pair were huge in Clayton's win. Seremet had nine digs and one assist, while Hornbeck had four digs and two aces.

Clayton was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 16 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in five consecutive contests.

Garner's record now sits at 13-6. As for Clayton, their record is now 8-5.

Garner took their victory against Clayton in their previous matchup back in September by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
