 Canyon Crest Academy came into Friday's   game having lost 13 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Oceanside Pirates  on Friday and snuck past  7-6. The  win was just what Canyon Crest Academy needed coming off of  a  16-0 defeat in their prior  match.
  Grace Yao was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound,   not allowing a single  earned run and  only two  hits over four innings pitched. Yao has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. Yao was also solid in the batter's box,  scoring a  run while going 2-for-4.
 In other pitching news,  Carrie Krummen looked comfortable as she  didn't allow a single  earned run over four innings pitched.
 Yao wasn't  the only one making solid contact as  five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was  Melony Garcia, who  went 2-for-5 with a  double and  an  RBI. Another player making a difference was  Sophie Kearse, who  scored a  run while  getting on base  in three of her five plate appearances.
 On Oceanside's side,  Nalia Nuanez and  Danyele Bertino did some serious damage despite the final result:  Nuanez  scored two  runs and  stole two bases while going 2-for-5, while  Bertino  went 2-for-4 with a  triple, a  stolen base,  and a  run.  Seaven Fuimaono was another key contributor,  going 2-for-4 with a  double and  an  RBI.
 Even though they lost, Oceanside  hit smart and  finished the game with only one  strikeout. That's the most  strikeouts they've managed all season.
 Canyon Crest Academy's victory  ended  a  nine-game drought at home  and  bumped them up to 2-16. As for Oceanside, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4-1.
 Both  teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canyon Crest Academy will  face off against Sage Creek at 4:00  p.m.  on Wednesday. Sage Creek is coming into the  matchup with four straight  wins at home,  so Canyon Crest Academy will have to stop a  squad with plenty of momentum. As for Oceanside, they will head out on the road to  square off against  Vista at 4:00  p.m.  on Wednesday. Vista is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 9.4  runs per game  this season.
