Baseball Recap: Abbott RVT Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Wilcox RVT, Abbott RVT was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Bullard-Havens Tigers. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Wolverines also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Isaiah Almonte and Logan Caruso made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Almonte struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Caruso tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Almonte has become a key player for Abbott RVT: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 2-5 otherwise. At bat, Almonte went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Caruso went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That run was Almonte's first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tyler Waterbury, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Abbott RVT's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 1-4 when he doesn't). Rayne Gallaway was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

The win got Abbott RVT back to even at 5-5. As for Bullard-Havens, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, Abbott RVT will be playing in front of their home fans against Shepaug Valley at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bullard-Havens, they will venture away from home to take on Wolcott RVT at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
