Basketball Recap: Fauquier Takes a Loss

Fauquier suffered their biggest loss since January 14th on Monday. They were dealt a 55-23 defeat at the hands of the Brentsville District Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 290th, while the Tigers are ranked 82nd).

Brentsville District's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Riley Coombs led the charge by going 8-for-9 on her way to 16 points and five rebounds. That's the most points Coombs has posted since back in December of 2024. Payton Brown was another key player, putting up ten points along with six assists and four steals.

Fauquier's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Brentsville District, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Looking ahead, Fauquier will head out to take on Sherando at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sherando will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Fauquier surely won't give up without a fight. Brentsville District does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
