Preview: Capistrano Valley Christian Eagles vs. San Gabriel Academy Eagles
Capistrano Valley Christian has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the San Gabriel Academy Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Capistrano Valley Christian will be strutting in after a win while San Gabriel Academy will be coming in after a defeat.
Capistrano Valley Christian put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They breezed by NOVA Academy at home to the tune of 57-6. Given Capistrano Valley Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 362nd, while NOVA Academy is ranked 1445th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Capistrano Valley Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Trae Johnson, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Ahern, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, San Gabriel Academy pushed their score all the way to 63 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Orangewood Academy 69-63. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Thursday (59), San Gabriel Academy still had to take the loss.
Capistrano Valley Christian's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-12. As for San Gabriel Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-7.
Capistrano Valley Christian ended up a good deal behind San Gabriel Academy when the teams last played last Tuesday, losing 62-47. Can Capistrano Valley Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
