Basketball Recap: Kiandre Estrada's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Edinburg North over Weslaco

After soaring to 72 points the game before, Edinburg North was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They took a 36-25 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Weslaco Panthers. The contest marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Edinburg North's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kiandre Estrada, who posted six points and five rebounds. What's more, Estrada also racked up two steals, the most he's had since back in December of 2024.

Jeremiah Castillo was the offensive standout of the game as he went 7 for 13 on his way to 21 points and five boards. Pete Cantu was another key player, putting up eight points and seven rebounds.

Edinburg North's defeat dropped their record down to 19-14. As for Weslaco, they pushed their record up to 20-8 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home.

Edinburg North and Weslaco should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Edinburg North will take on La Joya at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 443 places (439 vs. 882). Similarly, Weslaco (ranked 311th) will meet Pharr-San Juan-Alamo (ranked 1254th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
