Softball Game Preview: Machias Bulldogs vs. Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners

The Machias Bulldogs will head out on the road to take on the Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Machias is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

On Wednesday, Machias got the win against Woodland by a conclusive 10-1. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Deer Isle-Stonington, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Greenville 15-13. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mariners considering their one-run performance the game before.

Machias' victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Deer Isle-Stonington, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-9.

Machias might still be hurting after the 28-2 defeat they got from Deer Isle-Stonington when the teams last played back in May of 2019. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
