Basketball Recap: New Riegel Comes Up Short

New Riegel has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. The matchup between them and the Calvert Senecas didn't end well, with the New Riegel Blue Jackets falling 65-50. While losing is never fun, the Blue Jackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 327th, while the Senecas are ranked 154th).

Calvert's win on Tuesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Grady Otterbacher, who went 5-for-9 on his way to 14 points in addition to seven assists and five rebounds. What's more, Otterbacher also posted a 56% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gavin Wagner, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 13 boards.

New Riegel's defeat dropped their record down to 15-6. As for Calvert, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season.

New Riegel has already played their next contest (against Gibsonburg), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Calvert, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 60-35 win against North Baltimore on the 21st.
