Basketball Recap: Ariton Takes a Loss

Ariton was the 62-35 winner over Long when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Ariton Purple Cats took a 52-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Long Rebels on Friday. The Purple Cats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Ariton saw an underclassman step up: freshman Bryson Rhett posted ten points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Murphy, who had five points in addition to six rebounds and three blocks.

Ariton's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Long, their victory bumped their record up to 14-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ariton will face off against Abbeville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Long, they will square off against Barbour County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
