Recap: Timnath Cubs vs. Highland Huskies

It was a good run, but the Timnath Cubs unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They received a tough blow as they fell 55-41 to Highland. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Timnath of the 45-37 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.

Several Cubs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lily Eisbrener, who scored eight points along with four steals. Eisbrener is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gretchen Deines, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Highland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Briza Flores, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 17 rebounds. Flores has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Samaya Huntington, who scored 14 points along with four steals.

Timnath's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-4. As for Highland, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5.

Timnath on the road again on Tuesday and play against Strasburg at 6:45 p.m. on January 30th. Hopefully Strasburg focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Thursday. As for Highland, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Brush at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Brush will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while Highland is ranked 87th).
