Football Recap: Springfield Beats Mineral Ridge for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Springfield had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They walked away with a 19-7 win over the Mineral Ridge Rams. The Tigers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Rams, too.

The critical scores for Springfield came from Eli Wonner, Marco Gentile, and Matt Wymer.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Springfield's defense and their 3.5 sacks. Gentile was especially locked on to Mineral Ridge's QB and sacked him twice. Dominick Jones was another major factor on D, making 13 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

Springfield's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Mineral Ridge, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-2.

The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Tigers 11.7, the Blue Devils 14.1) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Mineral Ridge will face off against rival Western Reserve at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
