Softball Game Preview: Calhoun City Wildcats vs. Bruce Trojans

The Calhoun City Wildcats will take on the Bruce Trojans in a tournament on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Friday, Calhoun City earned a 12-7 victory over Houston.

Meanwhile, Bruce waltzed into their game on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Wildcats.

Sammie Gunter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Mary Haire was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jade Gunnells, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Bruce pushed their record up to 10-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Calhoun City, the win got them back to even at 8-8.
