Football Recap: Baldwyn Bearcats vs. Tupelo Christian Prep Eagles
Baldwyn waltzed into their matchup on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Tupelo Christian Prep Eagles 63-17. Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Baldwyn to victory, but perhaps none more so than Marquez Davenport, who rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 63 yards. Gray Earnest also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Baldwyn was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 222 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tupelo Christian Prep only rushed for 64.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Baldwyn's defense and their three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Chanceton Price.
Baldwyn's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-1. As for Tupelo Christian Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
Both are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Baldwyn will face off against Smithville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Baldwyn knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Smithville likes a good challenge. As for Tupelo Christian Prep, their road trip will continue as they head out to face West Lowndes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
