Basketball Game Preview: Van Wert Cougars vs. St. Henry Redskins

The Van Wert Cougars just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the St. Henry Redskins at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

On Friday, Van Wert came up short against Shawnee and fell 82-69. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 304th, while the Indians are ranked 17th).

Meanwhile, St. Henry beat Parkway 44-34 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Redskins in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won five in a row.

Van Wert better focus on containing Austin Zimmerman and Keith Siefring as the pair were huge in St. Henry's win. Zimmerman went 6 of 10 to rack up 19 points and seven boards, while Siefring posted eight points and five steals. The dominant performance gave Zimmerman a new career-high in points. Carson Harrod was another key player, putting up four points.

St. Henry's record is now 8-11. As for Van Wert, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 8-11.

Van Wert was taken down by St. Henry 74-39 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Thankfully for Van Wert, Evan Bowers (who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
