Basketball Game Preview: Chester Yellowjackets vs. Gibault Catholic Hawks

Chester is 2-7 against Gibault Catholic since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the Chester Yellowjackets will head out on the road to face off against the Gibault Catholic Hawks at 7:30 p.m. Gibault Catholic took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Chester, who comes in off a win.

Chester is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They snuck past Wesclin with a 68-64 victory on Monday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Yellowjackets' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 308th, while the Warriors are ranked 136th).

Meanwhile, after soaring to 63 points the game before, Gibault Catholic was a bit more limited in their matchup on Saturday. They lost to Okawville at home by a 46-30 margin.

Chester has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-14 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points over those games. As for Gibault Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-17.

Chester came up short against Gibault Catholic in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 47-40. Can Chester avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
