Baseball Game Preview: Campolindo Cougars vs. Northgate Broncos

The Campolindo Cougars will face off against the Northgate Broncos at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Campolindo's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Northgate's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Campolindo is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Pittsburg just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 7-6.

Jack Luster made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 14 runs the game before, Northgate was a bit more limited in their contest on Saturday. They fell just short of San Mateo by a score of 3-2.

Northgate also got a good showing from Max Carlos, who tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Carlos has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Blayne Ballard was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Campolindo suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 6-2. As for Northgate, their record is now 5-2.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Campolindo has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Northgate struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Campolindo took their victory against Northgate in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Campolindo since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
