Baseball Recap: Stillwater Gets the Win

Stillwater posted their closest victory since April 23, 2024 on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Hoosic Valley Hawks 5-4. This was a revenge game for the Warriors: when they faced off against the Hawks on Wednesday, they had to take a 3-2 defeat.

Avery Murray spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Stillwater's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 1-8 when he doesn't).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaden Burdo, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Braeden Grennan also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Stillwater's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-9. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hoosic Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

Stillwater has already played their next match, a 14-5 win against Waterford-Halfmoon on the 7th. As for Hoosic Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 13-2 loss against Hoosick Falls on the 7th.
