Softball Recap: 12 Straight Home Victories for North Rockland

After losing to Ketcham the last time they met, North Rockland decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Raiders came out on top against the Storm by a score of 5-1 on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Raiders.

Tara Murphy was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs.

Murphy wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Melody Nardone, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Reese Calvario was another, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

North Rockland hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.

North Rockland pushed their record up to 7-4 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Ketcham, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-2.

Coming up, North Rockland will head out on the road to challenge Clarkstown North at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season. As for Ketcham, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Brewster at 4:30 p.m. The Storm are facing the Bears at the right time seeing as the Bears are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
