Volleyball Recap: Duxbury Dragons vs. Melrose Red Raiders

On Saturday, Duxbury faced Melrose in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Duxbury Dragons took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Melrose Red Raiders. It was the first time this season that the Dragons let down their fans at home.

While Duxbury had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-18, 12-25, 25-19, 25-21.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Melrose to victory, but perhaps none more so than Leah Fowke, who had nine digs, a kill, and 38 assists. Fowke is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 17 or more in the last ten games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sabine Wenzel, who had 21 kills.

Duxbury's loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-1. As for Melrose, their win was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-2.

Duxbury will venture away from home to take on Pembroke at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Melrose, they and Stoneham are set to duel on Tuesday.
