Preview: Northeastern Clinton Cougars vs. Moriah Vikings
Northeastern Clinton is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Moriah is on a 12-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Northeastern Clinton Cougars will take on the Moriah Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Thursday, Northeastern Clinton beat Ticonderoga 55-45.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Northeastern Clinton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jordan Brown, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Logen Magoon, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Moriah had just enough and edged Saranac out 54-52 last Friday. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Moriah has scored all season.
Moriah got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Dieter Olcott out in front who scored four points along with ten rebounds and eight steals. Olcott is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Pelkey, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and five assists.
The victory got Northeastern Clinton back to even at 6-6. As for Moriah, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Northeastern Clinton hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 54.3 points per game. It's a different story for Moriah, though, as they've been averaging only 64.2 points per game. The only thing between Northeastern Clinton and another offensive beatdown is Moriah. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Northeastern Clinton lost to Moriah at home by a decisive 57-43 margin when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Northeastern Clinton, Rowan Swan (who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
