South remains the team to beat, but also watch out for Wasilla, East, Thunder Mountain and Juneau-Douglas in the Alaska softball #MaxPrepsFab5.

2017 Alaska preseason softball Fab 5, presented by the Army National Guard

1. South (Anchorage)
2016 record: 26-4
Head coach: Joe White

South captured the large school state championship last season and snapped East's four-year run. The Wolverines return ace Danni Desjarlais, who pitched all seven innings with five strikeouts in the state title win. Tristan Tolan should be a menace at the plate after belting seven homers with 28 RBIs. South also brings back a veteran group of nine seniors.

2. Wasilla (Alaska)
2016 record: 21-7
Head coach: Tyler Gilligan

Wasilla racked up 21 wins and reached the Alaska large school state quarterfinals last season. Jewel Fleckenstein should engineer most of the offensive production after batting .444.

3. East (Anchorage)
2016 record: 26-7
Head coach: Richard Knowles

East reached the state finals for the fifth-consecutive season last year. The Thunderbirds return ace Daisy Page, who logged 193 strikeouts with a 1.41 ERA. She was also a beast at the plate and batted .581.

4. Thunder Mountain (Juneau)
2016 record: 18-7
Head coach: Jorge Cordero



The Falcons had a dream season last year and captured their first small school state title in program history. Thunder Mountain brings back experience with Southeast All-Conference honorees Haleigh Dicarlo and Alondra Echiverri.

5. Juneau-Douglas
2016 record: 10-7
Head coach: David Massey

Juneau-Douglas reached the Small Schools state final last season. The Crimson Bears return some talent with Southeast All-Conference selections Sami Good and Morgan Balovich.
