Preview: Martinsville Pirates vs. Slocum Mustangs

Martinsville has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Slocum Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Even though Apple Springs scored an imposing 58 points on Wednesday, Martinsville still came out on top. Martinsville snuck past Apple Springs with a 62-58 victory.

Meanwhile, Slocum scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They breezed by Centerville on the road to the tune of 88-38. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 39-15.

Slocum's success was spearheaded by the efforts of James Lindsey, who scored 16 points, and Carter Sbrusch, who scored 27 points. That's the first time this season that Lindsey scored 15 or more points. Creede Kessel was another key contributor, scoring eight points.

Martinsville pushed their record up to 15-7 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.5 points per game. As for Slocum, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-15.

Everything came up roses for Martinsville against Slocum when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 77-37 win. Will Martinsville repeat their success, or does Slocum have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
