Softball Game Preview: Lane Tech Champions vs. Whitney Young Dolphins

Lane Tech is 2-8 against Whitney Young since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Sunday. The Champions will take on the Dolphins at 12:00 p.m. Lane Tech is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.

While Lane Tech's win against Amundsen wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Champions narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Vikings 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Champions have posted since April 9th.

Grace Brobson was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Hannah Roeder was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Whitney Young made sure to put some runs up on the board against Fenton on Saturday. The Dolphins put the hurt on the Bison with a sharp 13-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Dolphins, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Whitney Young has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-8-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lane Tech, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-8.

Lane Tech came up short against Whitney Young when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 5-2. Can the Champions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
