Volleyball Recap: Monomoy Falls Despite Big Games from Maddy Gray and Ella Cutter

Monomoy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sturgis West Navigators. While the Sharks didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Navigators 25-15 in the first set.

Monomoy actually scored more points across those five sets (108-105), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 15-25, 25-19, 28-26, 22-25, 15-13.

Monomoy's loss came despite strong showings from Ella Cutter and Maddy Gray. Cutter had 14 assists and ten aces, while Gray had ten digs, five kills, and two aces.

Monomoy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Sturgis West, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Monomoy has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Rising Tide on the 22nd. As for Sturgis West, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Calvary Chapel Academy on the 19th.
