Baseball Game Preview: Laney Buccaneers vs. South Brunswick Cougars

The Laney Buccaneers will head out to take on the South Brunswick Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Laney is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.

While Laney's win against West Brunswick wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Buccaneers had just enough and edged out the Trojans 3-1.

Laney saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carston Wedemeyer, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Mason Jones also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, South Brunswick hadn't done well against Hoggard recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Cougars won by a run and slipped past the Vikings 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since April 16, 2024.

Laney pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for South Brunswick, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-9.

Laney took their victory against South Brunswick when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Buccaneers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
