Recap: Chavez Lobos vs. Heights Bulldogs
The Chavez Lobos suffered their biggest loss since November 28, 2023 on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 52-5 loss at the hands of Heights. Chavez was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-3.
Heights was led to victory by Jazmyne Gilbert and Mira Johnson. Gilbert dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Johnson dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Johnson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 18 times she's played. Danielle Robinson was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
Chavez are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.0 points per game. As for Heights, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-10.
Chavez will head out on the road to face off against Westside at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Westside focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Saturday. As for Heights, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Lamar at 7:30 p.m. Lamar knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Heights likes a good challenge.
