Softball Game Preview: Laney Buccaneers vs. South Brunswick Cougars

The Laney Buccaneers are taking a road trip to take on the South Brunswick Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a six-game winning streak alive.

Laney's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past West Brunswick 10-0. Considering the Buccaneers have won nine matches by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, South Brunswick's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They came out on top against Hoggard by a score of 3-0.

Not much got past Kina Davis, who gave up just two hits and racked up 16 Ks to keep Hoggard off the board. Davis has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, South Brunswick's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Addison Woodruff, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

South Brunswick's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Laney, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.

Laney came up short against South Brunswick in their previous matchup back in March, falling 4-0. Can the Buccaneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
