Baseball Preview: Mt. Baker Mountaineers vs. Ferndale Golden Eagles
Mt. Baker hasn't had much luck against Ferndale recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Mountaineers will head out to challenge the Golden Eagles at 4:00 p.m.
Mt. Baker is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 15th straight game on Tuesday. They lost 10-1 to Sehome.
Ferndale not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 14th (when they won 13-4). Everything went their way against Nooksack Valley as they made off with a 10-1 win. The Golden Eagles haven't had any issues with the Pioneers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Nolan Boleak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Ferndale is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-7 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Braylon O'Breen was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Carson Brown, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Ferndale now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Mt. Baker, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-16.
