Volleyball Recap: Chloe Tran Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat San Marino

Flintridge Sacred Heart posted their closest win since September 14, 2024 on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the San Marino Titans. That's more bragging rights for the Tologs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Flintridge Sacred Heart was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (107-104), but they still managed to win. The final score came out to 27-25, 23-25, 14-25, 25-23, 15-9.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Flintridge Sacred Heart to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chloe Tran, who had 19 assists and five digs. Those 19 assists gave Tran a new career-high. Natalie Schroth was another key player, getting 18 assists and six digs.

Flintridge Sacred Heart was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in six consecutive matches dating back to last season.

San Marino's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ariminty Yu, who had 37 digs and three assists, and Cynthia Kackstetter, who had 14 digs and four aces. Yu has been hot for a while, having posted 12 or more digs the last 28 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Makayla Wong, who had 11 digs and two aces.

The win got Flintridge Sacred Heart back to even at 1-1.

Flintridge Sacred Heart has already played their next game, a 2-1 victory against Rio Hondo Prep on the 15th. As for San Marino, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against Notre Dame (SO) on the 16th.
