Preview: Wakefield Wolverines vs. Wake Forest Cougars
The Wakefield Wolverines will head out on the road to face off against the Wake Forest Cougars at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Wakefield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Monday.
Wakefield has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 47-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Green Level. Wakefield found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post seven fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite their defeat, Wakefield saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jaya Hamilton, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Nicole Amend was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Wake Forest unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 43-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Knightdale. Wake Forest has struggled against Knightdale recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Wakefield's record now sits at 10-5. Wake Forest's record is now 10-3.
Everything came up roses for Wakefield against Wake Forest in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 50-23 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wakefield since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
