Softball Recap: Phoenix Christian Extends Winning Streak to Two

Phoenix Christian came out on top against Scottsdale Christian Academy on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run third inning. The Cougars never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. Considering the Cougars have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Karly Van Metre was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

In other batting news, Phoenix Christian got a big performance out of Kyla Carpio, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Carpio has posted since back in March. Hannah Fisher was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

The victory made it two in a row for Phoenix Christian and bumps their season record up to 17-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Scottsdale Christian Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.

Phoenix Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Scottsdale Christian Academy, they will challenge Camp Verde at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
