The Hubbard Eagles will take on the Marlington Dukes in a tournament on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Hubbard proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 13) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Salem 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since April 7th.
Hubbard's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Layla Songer, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Marlington beat Alliance 10-6 on Thursday.
Justine Doringo was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Chelsea Miller was a standout: she fired off two home runs, four RBI, and one double while going 4-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Faith Savage was another key player, going 4-for-5 with one home run and four runs.
Marlington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .472. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alliance only posted a batting average of .214.
Hubbard's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-9. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Marlington, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Hubbard hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Marlington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
