Basketball Recap: Burlington Cougars vs. McClave Cardinals
It was a proper cat-fight when Burlington challenged McClave on Saturday. The Burlington Cougars were dealt a 59-31 defeat at the hands of the McClave Cardinals. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 234th, while the Cardinals are ranked 59th).

Burlington lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Weston Schaal, who posted ten points along with six boards and four steals. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Kenyon Ricketts also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.
Tuff Kelley continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for McClave, dropping a triple-double with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and ten blocks. That's the most blocks Kelley has posted since back in January of 2024. Mason Barr was another key player, going 5-for-8 on his way to 14 points and four steals.
Burlington's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-14. As for McClave, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 19-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Burlington will be taking part in a tournament against Byers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Byers will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Burlington surely won't give up without a fight. As for McClave, they will challenge Wiley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
