Baseball Recap: White River Comes Up Short

White River had lost three straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 6-8 to make it four. They fell just short of the Federal Way Eagles by a score of 3-1. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Hornets couldn't push the score so high this time.

White River got a good showing from Eric Garrison, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Garrison has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

As for Federal Way, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games.

On Federal Way's side, Orlando Young spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up ten Ks. Young has become a key player for the Eagles: the team is undefeated when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 2-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Federal Way's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Thoma Holden, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

While White River had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
