Basketball Recap: Twin Loup Comes Up Short

Twin Loup was the 38-27 winner over Riverside when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Twin Loup Wolves took a blow against the Riverside Chargers on Saturday, falling 57-30. The Wolves were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-12.

Despite the defeat, Twin Loup had strong showings from Jaelynn Blackburn, who posted six points and 16 rebounds, and Ragan Mauler, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards. With that strong performance, Blackburn is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game.

Even though they lost, Twin Loup smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Riverside's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Grace Mahony led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Mahony is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. Ashley Weltruski was another key player, putting up 18 points and six rebounds.

Twin Loup dropped their record down to 2-5 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Riverside, they moved to 1-6 with that win, which also ended their seven-game losing streak.

Twin Loup will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Chambers/Wheeler Central at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Riverside and Madison will round out the year against one another at at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
