Softball Recap: Cannon Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Cannon, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They put the hurt on the Charlotte Country Day School Buccaneers with a sharp 19-1 win on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cougars needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Emma Farley made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three). She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Wagner, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jolie Matthews, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Cannon now has a winning record of 6-5-1. As for Charlotte Country Day School, they dropped their record down to 2-5 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Cannon will take on Charlotte Latin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Hawks' pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Charlotte Country Day School, they will face off against Providence Day at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
