Basketball Game Preview: Pershing County Mustangs vs. Battle Mountain Longhorns

The Pershing County Mustangs will face off against the Battle Mountain Longhorns at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Pershing County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.

Pershing County is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Silver Stage 61-27 on Saturday. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Riley Harvey and Aaliyah Allen were among the main playmakers for Pershing County as the former went 7 of 11 en route to 16 points and five steals and the latter almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Allen has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Arya Garland, who posted five points and eight steals.

Meanwhile, Battle Mountain unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 50-34 bruising from Yerington.

Pershing County will have to contain Noel Hill as she made an impact in Battle Mountain's last game. She had 18 points and three steals. That was a full 52.9% of Battle Mountain's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Pershing County's win bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Battle Mountain, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-3.

Pershing County came up short against Battle Mountain when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 39-29. Can Pershing County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
