League recap: Russell Christian Academy tops Central Academy to extend winning streak

MAIS A District 5 (8 Man) recap Oct. 3, 2012

Russell Christian Academy extended the longest winning streak in MAIS A District 5 (8 Man) this week by beating Central Academy, 45-0. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Warriors.

Marvell Academy took down Calvary Christian 152-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Hunter Harmon and Sam Moore gave Calhoun Academy a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Harmon threw for 121 yards and three touchdowns, while Moore ran for 82 yards. Teammate Danny Joe Norman added to the ground attack by rushing for 65 yards.

Nic Stokes made the biggest impact on defense this week as Russell Christian Academy bested the Vikings. The 5-foot-9 senior grabbed one interception.

Anthony Joseph was the best wideout in the league this week as North Sunflower Academy fell to Sharkey Issaquena Academy. Joseph tallied two receptions for 73 yards. Caleb Dyche helped North Sunflower Academy's passing attack out by catching one ball for 20 yards.

Nate Ballard's team's Jacob Howse and Ben McGraw have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Howse has thrown for 600 yards this season, while McGraw, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 10 catches for 366 yards. The Cougars' Kyle Carter leads the league in rushing yards with 685.

The marquee game in MAIS A District 5 (8 Man) this week will be the clash between Kemper Academy and the Cougars. The Rams enters the game ranked 11th in the state, while Calvary Christian ranks 16th.

The Eagles led the league in scoring this week after putting up 152 points on the Cougars.
