Softball Preview: Wasco Tigers vs. Shafter Generals

Wasco and Shafter are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Wasco Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Shafter Generals at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Thursday, Wasco made easy work of Chavez and carried off an 8-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for Wasco.

Cedes Saldana spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in eight consecutive pitching appearances.

At the plate, Abby Salazar was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Ale Raya, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Shafter came tearing into Thursday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.7 runs) and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Tigers onto the board and left with a 14-0 win.

Marley Munoz was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Emily Pugh was another key contributor, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Wasco is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 17 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. As for Shafter, their victory bumped their record up to 17-9.

Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wasco has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .434.
