Softball Game Preview: Perry County Central Commodores vs. Lexington Catholic Knights

Perry County Central has won eight straight games at home, while Lexington Catholic has won eight straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Commodores will welcome the Knights at 6:30 p.m. The last four games Perry County Central has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

While Perry County Central's win against North Laurel wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Commodores sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Jaguars on Thursday.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lexington Catholic). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Bourbon County a 15-0 shutout on Thursday. Give the Knights' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

The team relied heavily on Lauren Kelley, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Mattingly, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Lexington Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .593. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Lexington Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Perry County Central, their victory bumped their record up to 18-10.
