Softball Recap: Mira Mesa Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Mira Mesa hadn't done well against Scripps Ranch recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Marauders' pitcher stepped up to hand the Falcons a 6-0 shutout. The Marauders not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 20th (when they won 10-0).

Brooklyn Haug made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bailey McBride, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

The win (which was Mira Mesa's third in a row) raised their record to 8-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Scripps Ranch, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mira Mesa will square off against Madison at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Warhawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.73 runs per game on average), something the Marauders will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Scripps Ranch, they will take on Canyon Hills at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rattlers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Falcons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
