Baseball Recap: Bellefonte Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

It's playoff time, and Bellefonte had no trouble coming through when it counted. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Juniata Indians a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Zach Lehman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Bellefonte got a massive performance out of Evan Mattern, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. That's the most hits Mattern has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Peyton Vancas, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Bellefonte kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Bellefonte is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for Juniata, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9-1.

Coming up, Bellefonte will square off against Obama Academy of International Studies at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. Juniata does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
