Recap: Muleshoe Mules vs. Shallowater Mustangs
If The Muleshoe Mules were feeling good off their 48-6 takedown of the River Road Wildcats last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Muleshoe fell 27-16 to Shallowater on Friday. Muleshoe gained 129 more yards on the day, but it was Shallowater that made the best of use of them.
Muleshoe's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Nathan Martens, who threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Ramzee Martinez, who picked up 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Kouper Boyd had a dynamite game for Shallowater, rushing for 183 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Clayton Vincent was another key contributor, rushing for 73 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries.
Muleshoe's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Shallowater, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
Muleshoe will head out on the road to face off against Dalhart at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Dalhart is on a three-game streak of home wins, Muleshoe a five-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. Shallowater will take on River Road at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. River Road comes in on a streak of failing to score more than eight points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
