Football Recap: Lake Ridge Drops Highest Score of Season Against Weatherford

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lake Ridge). They took down the Weatherford Kangaroos 63-46 on Thursday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 104th, while the Kangaroos are ranked 421st) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

DeShawn Edwards continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 109 yards and a pair of scores on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 219 yards and four TDs while completing 85% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (137.3). Jaiden Cotton also helped out as he racked up 146 rushing yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lake Ridge was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 279 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 160 rushing yards in nine consecutive games dating back to last season.

Several Kangaroos players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dj Quimby, who rushed for 192 yards and three touchdowns, and also caught one TD. Jakob Hemphill was another key player, gaining 146 total yards and four touchdowns.

Lake Ridge's record now sits at 6-2. As for Weatherford, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.
